Lesson 10: Jesus is Alive Today

Lesson 10 : Jesus is Alive Today
Bible Story : Resurrection of Jesus
Bible Scripture : Matthew 18:16-20
Objective : To show that Jesus had victory over death and is alive now.
Memory Verse : Ephesians 1:22 “And God placed all things under His feet and appointed Him to be head over everything for the church.”

Introduction

Ask the class who is the head of their family, their tribe, the state, the country. You do not need to hear actual names of people, just the position (father, chief, governor).

Tell the Story
Tell the bible story in your own words and by showing pictures.
Don’t just read it. Know it and bring it to life!

Main Points of the Lesson
(Teacher should concentrate on one or two truths in this lesson so that children steadily come to know more about God)

  1. Jesus Himself had said that He would suffer many things and be crucified but that He would rise again on the third day.
  2. God’s Son Jesus could not remain dead. God raised Him to life. He defeated death. He can never die again.
  3. Jesus called His disciples together and told them, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.” The disciples were to go to all people and tell them about Jesus, so that they too could follow and obey Him. Jesus promised His presence with them. He promised victory over sin and evil powers. Jesus’ words are said to us now.
  4. The resurrection of Jesus Christ is one of the greatest evidences of all history.

Our Response to the Story

LOOK
The stone rolled away and the empty tomb both bear witness to Jesus’ bodily resurrection from the dead.

LISTEN
Jesus Christ is God, and everything He said is true.

LIVE
Express your feelings about the Savior’s resurrection and its importance to you. Testify that Jesus’ suffering in the garden, His death, and His resurrection are the most important things that have ever happened on the earth.

Discussion Question
So far, what is the most significant event that ever happened in your life? How did that event change the way you live?

Game/Activity

IN THE TOMB, OUT OF THE TOMB

MATERIALS:

String, Yarn or Tape.

PREPARATION:
Draw a long line using yarn or masking tape (or use an imaginary line).

WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Have the children line up in a straight line facing the leader on the right side of the line. The right side of the line is “In the Tomb” and the left side of the line is “Out of the Tomb.” The leader yells either “In the tomb,” or “Out of the tomb.” Upon hearing the command, the children jump from one side to the other. If the children jump in the wrong direction or don’t jump to the other side when it’s a valid command, they are out of the game. The last player still in wins the game. The leader will try and get the players to jump incorrectly by pointing to one side as they yell to jump to the opposite side or by repeating the same side and/or changing the pace. Game can be easily adapted to fit other themes.

Prayer Time & Wrap-Up
Lead the children in a prayer.
