Introduction
Ask the class what is their most precious possession. Show them yours or tell them about it — something that you would not like to lose.
Tell the Story
Tell the bible story in your own words and by showing pictures.
We all know the story of baby Jesus. We especially get to hear about it at Christmas time when most of the world sets aside a holiday for His birth. But did you know that the Bible tells us the precious baby Jesus in the manger would one day die on the cross for everyone’s sin?
Main Points of the Lesson
(Teacher should concentrate on one or two truths in this lesson so that children steadily come to know more about God)
- God sent His most precious Son to us on earth.
- Jesus grew to be a man. He taught the people the ways of God. He did many miracles to show He was from God. But men refused to believe in Him. The religious leaders had Him arrested and taken by the soldiers, John 18:12-14.
- Jesus, the Son of God, was put to death by crucifixion, the cruelest way to kill anyone. The soldiers put Jesus on a wooden cross and nailed His hands and feet to it. Then they stood the cross up and let Him hang.
- God sent Jesus to redeem us from our sins so that we can be forgiven and live with Him.
Our Response to the Story
LOOK
Jesus died on the cross so our sins can be forgiven. The cross is like a bridge. Because of Jesus, we have a way to get back to God.
LISTEN
The cross of Christ should make and motivate us to live our lives for Jesus.
LIVE
Jesus willingly went to the cross to die for our sins. Without Jesus’ death on the cross, we could not have salvation. Since He died for us, we can have eternal life and fellowship with God.
Discussion Question
Jesus serves as our sacrifice. Do we still sacrifice for Him?
