Lesson 5 : Jesus Our Greatest Teacher
Lesson 5 : Jesus Our Greatest Teacher
Bible Story : The Sermon on the Mount – The Beatitudes
Bible Scriptures: Matthew 5:1-11; Matthew 6:24-34
Objective : To show that Jesus, when He was on earth, was a great teacher and His words and stories can still teach us today.
Memory Verse : Mark 1:22 “Jesus taught with authority.”
Introduction
Tell the children about a good teacher you had at school. Say why you liked him or her. For example, he was fair or he made the lessons interesting. Ask the children if they have a favourite teacher.
Tell the Story
Tell the bible story in your own words and by showing pictures.
Main Points of the Lesson
(Teacher should concentrate on one or two truths in this lesson so that children steadily come to know more about God)
- Jesus was a great teacher – the best ever. Crowds listened to Him. Jesus told them to be merciful, good and kind. Others may hate and hurt them, but God would care for them.
- Jesus taught by telling stories. Everyone loves stories. Jesus often used nature to explain His teaching. He explained things in a simple, clear way. He spoke about birds and flowers and other ordinary things to help people understand about God.
- Jesus taught kindness, forgiveness and love, even towards enemies.
- Another reason why Jesus was a Great Teacher is that He loved people. He wanted to help people learn about God. And Jesus taught with power.
Our Response to the Story
LOOK
We learn many things from other people. But we can learn the most important things from the Great Teacher, Jesus. It is in the Bible that Jesus’ words are found. When we hear those words from the Bible, it is just as if Jesus were talking to us.
LISTEN
Remember that we all can act more kindly, more friendly, and more like others want us to. But true change comes from within, when we take Jesus’ words to heart and let His love shine through us.
LIVE
It is easy to love those who love us, but how much greater is our challenge when we look beyond ourselves and influence for good those who reject and despitefully use us.
Discussion Question
If someone says, “I don’t need anyone to teach me. I know what to do and not to do.” How would you respond to this?
Game/Activity
TEXT MESSAGE
Have kids line up in a single file line, all facing the same direction (break up into groups of 5-8 if you have a large group). Give the last person in line one of the following words, and have them spell that word on the back of the person standing in front of them using their finger. See how long it takes to send out the correct message.
